La Negra Tomasa
Noémie, also known as “La Negra Tomasa”, was born in Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean.
She learned and started to dance salsa at the age of nine, when she asked her mother’s salsa teacher to organize salsa classes for children. The teacher’s answer was: “Bring me a group of students, and then we start the classes.” After convincing her friends, Noémie did bring a group of students and then the salsa classes for children started.
Classes, rehearsals and shows later, she advanced to ever higher levels through a series of famed teachers.
When she moved to Paris in 2015 she attended the SalsAlianza dance school, performing with the school’s semi-pro team and completing its professional training program.
Noémie's dance journey continues with the discovery of other styles.
She ventured into various dance styles such as contemporary, ballet, lyrical, heels, and street jazz attending classes and intensive trainings of big names like Galen Hooks or Yanis Marshall.
Her versatility and passion for dance have allowed her to explore different forms of artistic expression, connecting with audiences on emotional and energetic levels.
In 2022, she competed in the Dance French Federation salsa national championship and became the official salsa champion of France.
She represented France and Guadeloupe in the biggest world salsa championship.
Noémie aka "Tomasa" teaches in Paris for several years, developing her own concept of Body Movement & Musicality:
the “Musical Movement” concept.
The purpose of her classes is to work on musicality and expression through body movement work using different techniques and approaches :
- Instruments focus (dance with the clave, congas, guïro etc...), - Rythm focus (learn to dance and appreciate deferents rythms : son, guajira, chachacha etc..)
- Musical choreographic work (retain a music fast, work on precision that allow musicality, match moves to sounds)
- Energy and body control (match your energy to the music's)
It's all about, not hearing but, listening the music while dancing.
The point is to enable dancers to listen and connect their bodies and souls with the music.
La Negra Tomasa is well known for her unique flavor and magnetic, hypnotic charism on stage.
Her shows and Musical Movement classes are attended by audiences worldwide.
